A number of abandoned concrete silos can be seen scattered all over the island. They are the remnants of early attempts to grow a commercial pineapple crop on the island. Pineapples are still grown on the sothern end of the island but the soil could not support continuous agriculture. We bought a local pineapple and it was the tastiest we have ever had.
